Η Λέρος είναι ένα όμορφο πράσινο νησί. Η Λέρος βρίσκεται στα βόρεια Δωδεκάνισα και δεν απέχει πολύ από την Πάτμο Κω και Ρόδο. Η επιφάνειά της είναι περίπου 54 τετραγωνικά χιλιόμετρα με μήκος 15 km και πλάτους τουλάχιστον 1,5 χλμ. περίπου. Η ακτογραμμή είναι περίπου 46 χιλιόμετρα, υπάρχουν πολλά μικρά νησιά γύρω απο τη Λέρο. Η Λέρος ειναι  ιδανικό μερος για ημερήσιες εκδρομές στα αλλα μικρα νησάκια όπως οι Λειψοί, το Μαραθι, οι Αρκιοί, καθημερινά το καίκι Μπαρμπαροσα κάνει εκδρομές εκει με αναχώρηση απο Αγια Μαρίνα.
Στο Παντέλι το γραφικό ψαροχώρι της Λέρου θα φάτε φρέσκο ψάρι και χταποδάκι στα κάρβουνα στα παραλιακά ταβερνάκια και καφενεία που εχουν τα τραπεζάκια τους κυριολεκτικά πανω στο κύμα.
Για κολύμπι και βουτιές ο Βρομόλιθος , το Παντέλι, η Γούρνα , ο Ξυρόκαμπος, το Μπλεφούτι, τα Δυο Λυσγάρια. Για πρωινο καφε στα καφενεια της Αγιας Μαρίνας και για βραδινά στο Παντέλι, Λακκί η Αλιντα η Λέρος εχει να προσφέρει ικανοποιήσεις και στον πιο απαιτιτικό επισκέπτη.
Μην παραλείψετε μια επισκεψη στο πολεμικο μουσειο της Λερου στη Μερκια οπου σε ενα Τουνελ απο τον Β’Παγκοσμιο πόλεμο θα βρειτε ενθύμια απο την 50 ημερη μάχη της Λέρου.
Κατά τη διάρκεια των τελευταίων 2 δεκαετιών η Λέρος έχει καταστεί δημοφιλής προορισμός για εναλλακτικές μορφές τουρισμού, λόγω της φυσικής ομορφιάς του νησιού και το αμόλυντο περιβάλλον. Το νησί της Λέρου έχει κρατήσει τον δικό του παραδοσιακό χαρακτήρα και δεν έχει χαλάσει από το μαζικό τουρισμό  που έπληξε πολλά άλλα ελληνικά νησιά. Η Λέρος διαθέτει πολύ καλή υποδομή που καθιστά εύκολο για τον επισκέπτη να μεταβεί στο νησί με αυτοκίνητο ή με το ποδήλατο ή σκούτερ. Η Λέρος είναι ένα από τα πιο πράσινη νησιά της Δωδεκανήσου. Αρμυρίκια, πέυκα, Ευκάλυπτοι, ελιές και βελανιδιές, κήπους και αγροκτήματα με σταφύλια, σύκα, αχλάδια και λεμονιές, τους ψαράδες με ψαρόβαρκες και δίχτυα, μικρές ταβέρνες και υπαίθρια καφενεία στην παραλία, όλα αυτά κάνουν τη Λέρο ενα πραγματικό παράδισο στο μπλε Αιγαίο πέλαγος.

Καταλύματα, ενοικιαζώμενα δωμάτια και ξενοδοχεία θα βρειτε σε λογικότατες τιμές στο Παντέλι, Βρομόλιθο, Λακκί και Ξηρόκαμπο καθώς και στις περιοχές Αλιντα και Κριθώνι.
Θα φτασετε στη Λέρο με καθηνερινές πτήσεις της Ολυμπιακής απο Αθήνα καθώς και με τα πλοια της γραμμης Δωδεκανήσου, Μπλου Σταρ 2 , Διαγορας, Ανθη Μαρινα, Δημητρούλα. Απο τα άλλα νησιά των Δωδεκανησων με τα Καταμαράν Δωδεκάνησος Εξπρές και Πραιντ οπως και με Ιπτάμενα Δελφίνια.

As fishing around Leros and other small islands between Leros, Kalymnos and Lipsi becomes more and more unproductive, due to the over fishing of the waters around these islands in the last fifty years, the fishermen of Leros should probably try their luck in other places.  Alternative fishing places may seem a little bit far from their home island and it would be worth them staying for a couple of months in islands such as Mykonos, Paros and Naxos which could be very good places. 

Fishing around Mykonos can be very profitable, especially during the summer months when the restaurants and the hotels can ay to a fortune for a kilo of first class fish like red mullet (barbounia) or lobsters. The problem with Mykonos is the summer winds (Meltemia) that could almost make fishing there impossible, although there are still a lot of fish to be caught on the north side of the island still, on the straights between Tinos and Mykonos.  A lot of fish are ideal for nets around the small bays south of Rinia between Delos and Rinia on the west of Mykonos.  The south of the island of Mykonos is well protected from the winds, so line fishing is probably very productive.  As Paros is very close, a fishing boat can stay in the port of Mykonos where many of the northern parts of Paros are also easily reached within a couple of hours.  The market of Paros is also very profitable because both islands, with the development of tourism, now do not have many locals who chose to work as fishermen.

Αντε παλι ηλθε η Ανοιξη ήλθαν και τα πρώτα χελιδόνια (Οι  τουρίστες). Καλή δουλειά παιδιά. Στο λιμάνι της Αγιά Μαρίνας με το ταμπελάκι όπως πάντα περιμένοντας τα Δελφίνια και το Καταμαράν. Αλλά αμα δε τρέξεις δε θα φας. Οχι μονο αντε καναμε μια σελίδα στο ιντερνετ και θα ελθουν να μας βρουν οι τουρίστες. Η δουλειά θέλει τρέξιμο  Λακκί, Αγια Μαρίνα Ξηρόκαμπος…Βαστιέμαι να μην πω το όνομα και του πρώτου δρομέα . 

Εν Παση περιπτώσει η Λέρος καλωσορίζη και φέτος το Ελληνα τουρίστα που θα περάσει αξέχαστες διακοπές στο νησί μας.

Χρονια Πολλά Σε ολο τον Κόσμο

Well its is now the beggining of spring so the winter slowly goes away. This year February was a great surprise for all Greece especially the heavy snow in Athens was amazing in some areas like Nikea and Korydallos the snow was higher that usually in Florina at this time of the Year. In many areas of the Greek mainland in the North was ideal for Ski and other winter sports. But Leros is not a place for this kind of weather, as usual the winter in Leros for many locals is the best time of the year. Nice warm cafes time for bagamon and pilota. With the latest fashion many houses in Leros have made fire places as well as some Cafeterias like Castelo where the atmosphere is cosy with the wood burning while you enjoy the sorokada (the south wind rough sea, Sirocco)  . Winter usually snows very rare in Leros but this year the snow came very near but unfortunatelly in other islands. As for rains we have a lot, and this is a blessing for the local agriculture as well as for the municipality water supply. A vist in Leros during the winter is a good idea if you want to meet and know the locals better. there are many hotels open like Miramare in Lakki and Crithonis Paradise in Krithoni so accommodation wont be a problem.

Leros ha collegamenti giornalieri con Traghetti Greci chi sono in partenza da Pireo a le 19,00 -11.00 molte volte durante la settimana. Leros è servita da linee marittime Blue star traghetti (blue star 2 e Diagoras e anche con GA ferries (Anthi Marina e Romilda )
Se arrivate a Lero via Rodi o Kos Il catamarano Dodekanissos Express  ha collegamenti giornalieri con Leros .
Da aprile fino ad ottobre c’è collegamenti giornalieri con aliscafi da Samo Kos Patmos Rodi Lipsi e altri isole di dodecaneso con Leros.
Con la barca Barbarosa potete fare escursioni giornaliere alle piccole isole intorno a Lero e lipsi.

Leros island has been a paradise for shopping. Every kind of shop is on the island. Try to find a shop you name it you will find it in Leros. Supermarkets, fruit markets, fashion shops, boutiques, book stores, pastry shops, Greek art shops, news agencies, pharmacies and even small department shops not as bid as those when you are doing your Athens shopping but almost with everything that you will find in Athens you can find it here as well. In Lakki already 2 mobile phones companies have open their branches. All kind of household items shops you can find along the road that goes from Lakki to Platanos. Many shops as well have been open in the road of kamara including furniture and some nice gardening shops. For Pastries and local sweets Agia Marina is the place. In Agia marina you will find as well Greek art and fishing gear stores. In Platanos bucheries, grosseries, news agents, gold and jewellery, electrics, fashion, mini markets and supermarkets. Lakki is the place for fruits and almost any kind of shopping. All the area arround the old Italian market and the paralel roads are bursting from any kind of shops. Prices are for some products really cheap while for other products are the same like in Athens or Piraeus.

Surrounded by the sea the most dominating plate is fish and crustaceans! Grilled,
marinated with rosemary, fried or boiled and always deliciously seasoned with herbs.
Vegetables like fresh beans, okra, eggplants cooked with a generous “dose” of virgin
olive oil are a must to try and don’t forget Kakavia the fishermen’s soup. The food in Leros taste better than the typical Greece food that you will eat in a restaurant of a big city of Greece because in our island we use many of our local products and spices.
Taste the famous local soft cheese “Myzithra” (from sheep or goat milk).
Lerians seem to have a sweet tooth! There are plenty of pastries shops all over the
island which offer delicious sweets like “Diples”, “Poukakia”(stuffed with almonds,
sweetened with honey), macaroons, specially eaten at weddings and many, many
more…
Don’t forget to try Soumada, an almond drink, on a hot summer day together with
cold water what else can you ask for …
There are plenty of fresh fruits like, melons, watermelons, vanillas, grapes,
Frangosika (fruits of cactus plants) and in October “Gavafes” (a tropical fruit from
Egypt) and only found in Leros due to its mild climate. Also you should try Greek pickles or toursi made from various vegetables. But most in Leros you will enjoy the fresh fish.

The airport of Leros located in Partheni. Olympic airlineshas every day flights to Leros from the Airport of Athens. The airport start operating in 1984 with the small airplanes of the Olympic airways Dornier, those airplanes where small and old today the airplanes that are used for the flights to Leros are of the type De Havilland Canada DHC-8 Dash 8 with place for 50 passengers, the journey is about 55 minutes from Athens, therefore it is ideal for a day trip from Athens during the weekend to visit Leros for a couple of days.

The Location indicator of the Leros airport is LRS its runway has a length of 1015 meters (less than one mile) this particular problem for many years has been discussed with many Greek authorities as Leros needs a longer runway so bigger airplanes will be able to land on the airport.

The extension of the Leros airport runway will boost the tourism of the island as it will become available to international flights and charter flights to Greece that are using bigger airplanes. Unfortunately it looks like that the authorities are unwilling to give the green light for this extension and therefore the tourism of Leros is depended by the charter flights that are landing to the airports of Kos, Rhodes or Samos. The airport of Leros is located about 4 kilometers from Platanos town and 2 from the tourist resort of Alinda. Transport to the airport is made by taxis and the fare is very reasonable as well as the prices in the hotels and other accommodation in Leros compare to the prices of other islands especially with those of the “expencive islands” like Santorini or Mykonos, flights to Santorini today cost a few euro as advertise by the Aegean Airlines  but one night in a Santorini hotel is probably more expensive then the air ticket, so we heard from several tourists that spend a few days of holidays in Santorini. That is not happens to Leros, taxi, accommodation and food all are cheaper in our island then many other Greek islands.

Από την αρχαιότητα μέχρι σήμερα οι Λέριοι δέχτηκαν πάμπολλες επιρροές από τους ξένους και οικείους που προσέγγιζαν το νησί. Κατάφερναν όμως πάντα να απομονώνουν τα θετικά στοιχεία κάθε κουλτούρας και να διατηρούν μια γνήσια παράδοση. Ο χριστιανισμός βρήκε πρόσφορα έδαφος και αναπτύχθηκε από την πρώιμη εποχή του. Κι αργότερα ο Όσιος Χριστόδουλος ενέπνευσε το βαθύ χριστιανικό αίσθημα στους κατοίκους. Είναι η περίοδος που η Λέρος, γνωρίζει ιδιαίτερη πνευματική άνθηση και ευημερία. Άνθρωποι νοικοκυραίοι, ζεστοί, ανοιχτόκαρδοι και φιλόξενοι, οι Λέριοι αγαπούσαν πάντα τον τόπο τους και ό,τι τους έδενε μαζί τους. Σαν νησιώτες ήταν πάντα δεινοί ναυτικοί και ψαράδες, οι περισσότεροι. Λίγοι είναι οι αγρότες μια και το νησί είναι μικρό και τα καλλιεργήσιμα εδάφη λιγοστά. Ανάμεσά τους όμως υπήρχαν και άξιοι τεχνίτες, μάστορες στο να φτιάχνουν πλεούμενα και στο χτίσιμο των σπιτιών τους. Σήμερα στο νησί υπάρχουν δεκάδες διάσπαρτοι παραδοσιακοί οικισμοί. Με κατοικίες χαμηλοτάβανα σπιτάκια, με πολλές «τράβες», μικρά παράθυρα, κατάλευκους τοίχους και μπλε μαντώματα που κατά το παρελθόν φάνταζαν μυστικά σαν την ελληνική σημαία ενάντια στους τότε κατακτητές. Κάτι που μαρτυρά το έντονο ταπεραμέντο των ανθρώπων που δεν σηκώνουν εύκολα ζηγό επάνω τους. Που δεν ξεχνούν. Ανθρώπους με πνεύμα αδούλωτο. Οι σημερινοί Λέριοι αγαπούν και καλλιεργούν την παράδοση και την πνευματική κίνηση. Στον αναπαλαιωμένο Πύργο του Μπελένη στεγάζεται σήμερα το λαογραφικό και Ιστορικό Μουσείο της Λέρου με σπάνια εκθέματα. Στο Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο της εκτίθενται αξιόλογα ευρήματα, επιγραφές, επιτύμβιες στήλες, νομίσματα, ψηφιδωτά και αγγεία. Στις πολιτιστικές και καλλιτεχνικές εκδηλώσεις που διοργανώνονται κάθε καλοκαίρι από το Δήμο σε στενή συνεργασία με τοπικούς συλλόγους περιλαμβάνονται αξιόλογες συναυλίες θεατρικές παραστάσεις, ναυταθλητικοί αγώνες, εκθέσεις ζωγραφικής και διαλέξεις.Τόπος φιλόξενος η Λέρος έτοιμη να καλωσορίσει καινούργιους κόσμους, νέες τάσεις, παραμένοντας αυθεντική και ανθρώπινη. Κι οι σημερινοί Λέριοι χωρίς να προδίδουν τα έθιμα και την παράδοσή τους, έχουν κατορθώσει να συνδυάσουν και τα θετικά στοιχεία της σύγχρονης ζωής. Έτσι στη Λέρο συναντάς από τη μία τους ψαράδες να ξεψαρίζουν τα δίχτυα τους και από την άλλη ένα τζετ σκι να σχίζει τη θάλασσα. Βρίσκεσαι μπροστά σε σύγχρονες τουριστικές μονάδες που προσφέρουν όλες τις ανέσεις απόλυτα εναρμονισμένες στο φυσικό περιβάλλον του νησιού.
